COTTAGE AND COAST
Wild seas or clear skies, a place of comfort, adventure, and space to relax.
The Cottage
Clementine Cottage is a place to arrive, shut the gate, and let the rest of the world wait. Inside, the rooms don’t match precisely; each has a rhythm and feel. Bold and warm, cosy and bright. Downstairs, a super king bedroom with enough space to spread out, alongside a single room that’s made to feel as much like home as anywhere else. Upstairs, another super king with a zip-and-link bed for flexibility, next to a king-sized room with large closets and enough storage to settle in properly. A cloakroom WC sits between them. The main bathroom downstairs has what you need after a day by the sea: a roll-top bath, a walk-in shower, and somewhere to wash the salt away before dinner.
The games room is there for the in-between moments—slow mornings, rainy afternoons, friendly rivalries over the pool table, and laughter spilling from the Xbox, PlayStation, and Wii while the rest of the house unwinds. There’s space to stretch out, gather, plan the next day’s adventure, or let the hours unfold as they will. However long you stay, it’s a place that feels like it was waiting for you.
Beyond the conservatory, the garden is its own retreat. It includes a terrace for al fresco dining, seating eight beneath open skies. The patio is screened, and a hot tub is warming in the corner, steam rising softly into the evening air. A palm tree stands beside it, its fronds catching the last light, a quiet reminder that time drifts a little slower here. The outside is as much a part of the cottage as the inside.
The driveway is gated and enclosed, with space for up to four cars. Two can turn easily, while the others may need to reverse down Sunnylands Way, a private road best suited for confident drivers. Behind the house, the garden is tucked away. A screened patio and a hot tub are waiting in the corner, steam curling into the evening air.
Location
Holcombe is the kind of village that still feels like a secret. Tucked between Teignmouth and Dawlish, it sits just far enough from both to have its quiet rhythm but close enough to be part of everything. The lane down to the beach, Smugglers Lane, tells its own story, a reminder of the coastline’s history, of hidden cargo and hushed crossings. At the bottom, the sea waits. A path stretches out in both directions, one way to Teignmouth, the other to Dawlish and beyond. Walk far enough, and the landscape changes: Maidencombe’s rocky edges, St Marychurch’s old-world calm, Babbacombe’s terraces looking out to sea. If you want to cross the estuary, the Teignmouth ferry still runs as it has for centuries, carrying you to Shaldon’s cafés and quiet streets.
